April 18th, 2002

A mini rant from my friend and former manager, Brian DeMarzo (Once again, in purple)

Back in July 2000, a 21-year old college student, Mr. Wiest, died from an ecstasy overdose while partying at Twilo, a Manhattan night club. In April 2002, his family filed a lawsuit against the club owners for delaying three hours before notifying emergency services of Mr. Wiest's condition. The suit states that Mr. Wiest MAY HAVE survived had they responded sooner.

Of course, had Wiest - a biomedical engineering student who should have known better - decided not to take drugs that night, there is no doubt that he WOULD HAVE survived.

Perhaps the club owner can counter-sue the family for not providing adequate moral guidance for Wiest, who took a gamble - and lost - by participating in a known illegal and potentially dangerous activity.

Alas, in today's litigious society, the victim is never at fault, and you sue the person involved with the deepest pockets.
