Ingredients:
4 oz (100/125 g.) butter or margarine
1 lb (450 g.) self-raising flour
1/4 teaspoon salt ( I don't like salt, its bad for u)
1/2 teaspoon of bicarbonate of soda
milk to mix
Directions:
Oven Temperature: 375 degrees
Rub the fat into the flour with your fingertips
until it looks like breadcrumbs. Add the salt, and bicarbonate
of soda. Mix in enough milk to make a soft dough.
Pat or roll, (Pat is a funny word!!lol), out
the dough until it is about 1/2 in. thick, and cut into 1 and
a 1/2 inch rounds.
Bake in a pre-heated oven for 12 - 15 mins.
For cheese scones, add 2oz (50g.) of strong grated
cheddar cheese and 1/4 teaspoon of dry mustard before the milk.
Serve hot and buttered.
You can also add 1 - 2 teaspoons of finely chopped
chives to the basic recipe.
To sweeten them, add 1 tablespoon of sugar to
the basic recipe before adding the milk.
For fruit scones, add 2oz (50 g.) sugar and 4oz
(100/125 g.) of sultanas / mixed fruit, (or whatever the hell
u feel like adding)!, to the basic mixture. You can add an egg
with the milk to enrich the scones if you like.
